Alpha Kappa Psi, commonly referred to as “AKPsi,” is a co-ed professional business fraternity open to all college students with an interest in business. It was founded at New York University in 1904 and has since been chartered at over 300 college campuses in the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States. Alpha Kappa Psi: A Well-Established Student Organization

Students interested in joining Alpha Kappa Psi can rest assured that they are joining a well-established organization. Founded over 100 year ago, the fraternity has over 200,000 members.

Benefits of Student Membership in This Professional Business Fraternity

  • Opportunity to learn business skills. Members learn time management skills, the meaning of professionalism, how to network and interview, as well as job search basics like how to create a resume and cover letter.
  • Opportunity to apply business knowledge. The Alpha Kappa Psi Foundation sponsors case competitions in which students must analyze realistic business situations that involve fast-paced decision making, conflicting goals, and managerial decisions.
  • Leadership opportunities. Each chapter offers student leadership positions. Driven students may serve in a leadership capacity, which looks great on a college resume. Typical leadership positions in Alpha Kappa Psi may include president, vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Director of Social Affairs, Director of Public Relations, and Fundraiser.
  • Networking Opportunities. With over 200,000 members, the fraternity has an extensive alumni network.
  • Volunteer Opportunities. Every chapter engages in philanthropic activities that may include community service or fundraising for non-profit organizations.

What Does It Take to Be a Member?

Without a doubt, membership in Alpha Kappa Psi involves a significant time commitment, especially during the pledge process. Pledges must establish relationships with fraternity brothers and attend specific chapter events. In addition to the time commitment, membership is contingent upon maintaining a specific GPA.

Interested in Joining Alpha Kappa Psi?

The fraternity’s national website offers a chapter directory. Students interested in joining Alpha Kappa Psi can search for a chapter by region. Those without a chapter on campus may be eligible to start a new chapter. Requirements for starting a new chapter are listed on the fraternity’s website, but in general there must be adequate interest in a new chapter as evidenced by the commitment of two faculty advisors and at least forty student members.

Students who don’t have access to Alpha Kappa Psi may find other another business fraternity like Pi Sigma Epsilon on campus.
