For cheap date ideas, college students should check out what's being offered on campus, like movie nights, sporting events, and outings sponsored by clubs.

For most college students, expensive nights on the town are probably out of the question. Nonetheless, there are plenty of budget-friendly ways for cash-strapped students to enjoy a fun and romantic date. Here are a few ideas.

College Movie Nights

College organizations often arrange inexpensive movie showings for students on campus. This may not be as exciting as seeing a flick in a fancy stadium seating theater, but hey, it's the same movie, right? Afterwards, get away from the crowd of familiar faces and spend some time alone over an expensive dinner or at a coffee shop.

College Sporting Events

The college life experience has a built-in entertainment experience that's usually pretty inexpensive or even free: college sporting events. While it might be difficult or expensive to get seats for big games, it can be just as fun to get to know some of the less well-known teams on campus and visit a few games with a date. Or for a big date, tickets to a big game can be a great way to impress.

Campus Organization Sponsored Trips

Keep an eye out for inexpensive trips sponsored by student organizations. Groups might have plans to visit a museum, or a nearby city, or a show, or a historical site. Students may get reduced-price tickets for these kinds of excursions, and there's probably a bus or other form of transportation available as well.

Theater Student Rush Tickets

Like theater? In most cities, students are able to get discounted tickets by waiting outside at a designated time before the show for student rush tickets. Some shows are harder to get into than others, so try to show up on a night that's less popular for better odds. Rush tickets are also sometimes available for symphonies, operas, comedy shows, and other similar events.

Walking and Biking Trails

College campuses aren't usually the best place to get exercise, so why not leave campus and explore local walking and biking paths? Usually this only costs the gas or public transportation money it takes to get to the path (and with a bike, this cost might be eliminated). This is a great easy to get away from campus and have some alone time without spending lots of money. There's no cover charge for nature!

Museums

Museums rarely are terribly expensive, and it's easy to find museums that offer student discounts or special discount days for students. Be creative and think beyond the big local art and history and science museums. Smaller regional museums, or museums that focus on a special interest, may be especially inexpensive. Also, be sure to take advantage of college and university museums, which students often overlook.

Creative Student Date Ideas

With a little imagination, there's no reason why college dating has to be expensive. Check out what's available to do on campus, or plan an inexpensive day away at a museum or on a bike trail. The important part is to have fun, and fun doesn't have to break the bank.
