College students might not go trick-or-treating anymore, but they can still have fun playing Halloween themed-games at campus Halloween parties.

Halloween can be just as much fun for college students as it is for kids. Students can dress up in costumes, host Halloween parties, and play fun Halloween games. Games can liven up Halloween parties by encouraging all of the guests to participate and interact with one another. Halloween games can range from trivia to outdoor scavenger hunts. The following sections describe some Halloween games students can play.

Play Halloween-Themed Trivia

When planning and preparing for a Halloween party, student hosts can create a list of ten Halloween-themed questions for Halloween trivia. At the beginning of the party the host can ask the guests the questions, and the guests can either write down their answers on pieces of paper or raise their hands to answer the questions. The guests can play for prizes, like Halloween candy.

Go on a Halloween Scavenger Hunt Around the Campus

If students don’t mind leaving their party venues, then they can organize a Halloween scavenger hunt. Party hosts can create a list of items students need to find or costumes they need to have their pictures taken with around the campus. The guests going on the scavenger hunt can break up into pairs or groups of three or more people. The team who arrives back to the party first wins.

Start a “Thriller” or “Monster Mash” Dance Contest

Later in the evening (and perhaps after the guests have had a few drinks, if they are of the legal drinking age), the hosts can start a dance contest. Guests can try to recreate the moves in the “Thriller” video, or they can perform their own original moves to classic Halloween songs, like “Monster Mash.” The other party guests can vote for their favorite dancer by clapping their hands.

Play a Classic Childhood Game Like Pass the Pumpkin

Students might also enjoy playing games that they remember from Halloween parties in elementary school. They can play pass the pumpkin, in which students pass a small plastic pumpkin around in a circle with their necks, no hands allowed. They can also play timed races, such as racing to see who can unwrap the “mummy” the fastest (i.e., unwinding toilet paper that had been wound around one of the guests).

Whether playing classic childhood games, like pass the pumpkin, or running around campus for a scavenger hunt, there are several games college students can play at Halloween parties. Party hosts can create Halloween trivia games and start dance contests. And, they can even ask their guests to recreate the “Thriller” video.
