College students should join student organizations that complement their career goals. Pi Sigma Epsilon is an option for those interested in business.
Pi Sigma Epsilon is a professional business fraternity that focuses on sales, marketing, and management. It was founded at Georgia State University in 1952 and has since expanded to over one hundred college campuses across the United States. Today there are fifty active chapters.
Who Can Join Pi Sigma Epsilon
Even though the fraternity’s focus is on sales, marketing, and management, membership is open to all college majors.
How to Join This Professional Business Fraternity
Students interested in joining Pi Sigma Epsilon should first see if there is an existing chapter on campus. If the student’s college does not appear on the list of schools with chapters, they may consider starting a chapter on their campus. Information on how to start a new chapter is available on the PSE website.
Benefits of Undergraduate Student Membership in Pi Sigma Epsilon
Members learn valuable business skills. Because the fraternity is business-oriented, many events are held in business attire, so members learn how to dress appropriately in a business setting. Depending upon a particular chapter’s events, members may also pick up interviewing skills. Some chapters participate in marketing studies or sales events, so members may also have the opportunity to hone marketing and sales skills.
Lasting friendships. Membership is contingent upon completion of a pledge period that includes mandatory meeting attendance and community service with the other pledges. After months of spending a lot of time together, many pledges form lasting friendships.
Getting to know recruiters. Some companies that rely heavily on sales and marketing personnel will send representatives to attend group functions. Members who attend those functions will have a chance to speak directly to the company representative outside of the interview process and potentially network their way into a future job with that company.
Leadership opportunities. Each chapter has a student leadership team. Among other positions, students can run for chapter president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer. Serving in a leadership capacity looks great on a college student resume.
Access to college scholarships. Members can apply for scholarships ranging from $500 to $2,000 each.
Membership Benefits Continue After Graduation
College graduation does not signal the end of a student’s relationship with Pi Sigma Epsilon. Alumni may participate in conferences and conventions. They also have access to group discounts car, home, and renter insurance as well as car rentals.
Students who don’t have access to a chapter on their campus and don’t want to start a chapter have other options. Another professional business fraternity like Alpha Kappa Psi may be available on their campus. Alternatively, accounting, finance, or information system majors can consider joining an honorary group like Beta Alpha Psi.
